What do I need for my first dab setup?

A dab setup looks complicated, but it's really five essentials plus a few nice-to-haves. This guide walks through each part — and our setup builder can assemble a compatible set for you automatically.

The rig (the "bong" for concentrates) A small water pipe that cools the vapor. Smaller is better for flavor: less air volume means the taste of your concentrate stays intact. Most rigs have a female joint at 90° — that decides which banger fits (see the banger size guide). Browse glass rigs.

The banger (where the magic happens) A quartz "bucket" you heat with a torch. Your concentrate goes in here. Quartz is the standard because it handles heat without adding taste. Size, gender and angle must match your rig.

The carb cap (the lid) Placed on the hot banger after the dab goes in — it restricts airflow so everything vaporizes at lower temperatures. Different shapes steer the air differently; the carb cap guide explains the types.

The dab tool A small metal or glass stick to portion and place your concentrate. Never use your fingers — the banger stays hot for minutes.

The heat source Most people start with a butane torch. Electronic options exist too — the torch vs. electronic guide compares both.

Nice to have - Terp pearls — little quartz balls that spread heat evenly (how they work) - A timer or IR thermometer — for repeatable temperatures - Cotton swabs + isopropyl alcohol — for cleaning after every dab (cleaning guide)

Safety first Hot quartz and open flames deserve respect — read the safety basics before your first session.
